Cooperation between Turkmenistan and EC countries

On August 26, 2009 President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has arrived to the Republic of Bulgaria on the first official visit.
The official visit of President Georgi Parvanov to Turkmenistan last year offered the powerful incentives to develop Turkmen-Bulgarian cooperation.
The top level talks in Ashgabat, in the framework of which the first Turkmen-Bulgarian business forum was held, high spotlighted the firm, well thought-out intention of Turkmenistan and Bulgaria to further harmonize the interests and consistently maintain the intergovernmental dialogue in both bilateral and multilateral formats, in the framework of collaboration between Turkmenistan and the European Union member states in particular.
Among the documents signed a year ago - the Memorandum of Understanding in Energy Cooperation and the Intergovernmental Agreement on Economic Cooperation.
Turkmenistan exports fuel and energy and agricultural products to Bulgaria and imports chemical products, equipment and mechanisms, medicaments, household goods and food stuffs, vehicles, etc.
According to the Ministry of Economy and Development of Turkmenistan, as of July 1, 2009 9 enterprises with the share of the Bulgarian capital including the branches and representative offices of the well-known Bulgarian companies specialized in building construction, marketing and consulting research, retail and wholesale trade, distribution activities are registered in the territory of Turkmenistan. Over the period 20 projects and contracts amounted to US$ 7.3 million and 140.7 million manats and implemented in collaboration with the Bulgarian partners were registered in the country.
The Turkmen leader’s visit to Sofia will significantly promote the intergovernmental dialogue.
