Turkmenistan’s energy industry increases its potential
15.09.2009
The Achievements and Further Development of Energy Industry in the Epoch of New Revival under the leadership of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov scientific conference was conducted at the Ministry of Energy and Industry to mark Day of Oil and Gas Industry Workers, Power Engineers and Geologists on September 12.
The reports presented at the conference emphasized that power industry was dynamically developed under the support of the Turkmen leader. During eight months of 2009 the sector produced commodities, works and services to the sum of 312.6 million manats, the growth rate made up 153.5 percent as compared to the same period of 2008. Electric power production made up 10.489,7 kilowatt-hours, or increased by 5.4 percent as compared to the same period of 2008. Over the period 1.8 billion kilowatt-hours were exported that was as higher as 24.7 percent as compared to the same period of 2008. Over 1.4 billion kilowatt-hours were supplied to the population free of charge.
8 stations, 6 production associations, energy enterprises, Ashgabat Lighting Department, Turkmenenergoabatlayys specialized production association, Dovletenergogozegchilik Enterprise and Energoenjam Enterprise are affiliated with the Turkmenenergo State Energy Corporation. The capacities of the existing power plants enable to satisfy the domestic needs and increase electric power exports.
Power transmission lines connected all the power plants in the power grid that is managed and monitored on-line by the Central Dispatch Control of the Turkmenenergo Corporation.
Today special attention is paid to uninterrupted supply of electric power to the rapidly developing capital of Turkmenistan. It is planned to build the gas turbine power plant with the capacity of 254.2 MW in the northeast of Ashgabat in 2010. After the plant is put into operation it will enable to increase electric power supply to the capital, provide the additional guarantees of the effective functioning of the power grid of the growing metropolis and ensure reliable power supply of Ahal Velayat for many years ahead. Two stations are under construction in Avaza national tourism zone and Balkanabat. They will be put into operation next year.
The new power stations along with the Ashgabat power plant, which has been operating for three years, are the new generation power units produced by the American company – General Electric. Compared with steam-turbine plants they have a number of the significant advantages such as the technical characteristics and high degree of reliability.
The energy industry development program for the period till 2020 provides for reconstruction and supply of the existing steam power plants with state-of-the-art equipment. These measures will enable to increase electric power output by 500 MWt. Construction of the high-voltage transmission lines and substations will enable to reduce electric power loss.
To enhance the reliability of electric power supply of the capital the 220 kVt ring power supply system will be constructed. The power distribution system will be extended. It is planned to build 28 substations with the voltage level of 110 kVt and 35 kVt in Ashgabat during the next three years. The lighting systems and systems of supply of power to apartment houses will be reconstructed.
The President’s National Program of improvement of the social and housing conditions in villages, towns, cities and etrap centres for the period till 2020 provides for electrification of the most remote regions of the country, reconstruction of the distribution networks, transformer substation and laying of over 24,000 kilometres of power transmission lines.
An advanced growth in the capacity of the power network in the country is aimed at promoting the new energy policy initiated by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to search the most profitable trends in increasing exports of Turkmen energy to world markets. Today Turkmen power engineers increase electric power exports to Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, consider the ways to play on world energy market. In accordance with the Economic Development Strategy for the period till 2020 electric power production in the country is to increase up to 26.38 billion kilowatt-hours per year and electric power exports is to increase to over 6 billion kilowatt-hours per year.
The ceremony of awarding the valuable presents to the best power industry workers was held upon concluding the conference.
