North Americans discover InnoTrans
26.03.2010
Things are changing in the North American railway market. One reason for this is President Barack Obama’s announcement pledging to invest eight billion dollars of state funds in setting up a high-speed railway network. Gradually opening up the US railway market, hitherto largely closed to outsiders, is also having a positive effect on InnoTrans 2010. More exhibitors and attendees from the US than ever before are expected to attend the world’s leading trade fair for rail transport technology from September 21 to 24 in Berlin. Currently there are 23 companies on the list of US exhibitors, including major companies such as GE Transportation, Progress Rail Services, WABTEC Corporation, Electro-Motive Diesel and Cisco Systems.
Matthias Steckmann, Director at Messe Berlin: “This year we expect an increased number of attendees from the USA. Thus 500 mostly senior managers construction, design and maintenance of railway infrastructure have agreed to take part. Major railway companies such as Amtrak as well as transport companies from New York, Chicago, New Jersey and Vancouver in Canada are sending numerous representatives to Berlin.“
Traditionally InnoTrans is also a meeting place for decision-makers from US suppliers. Members of Timken, L. B. Foster, Railquip, Loram, Magnus and Miner are among those expected to attend. “The fact that the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association will take part in InnoTrans for the first time rounds off this picture very positively“, said Steckmann.
Says Chuck Emely, Executive Director of the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA): "The international market is growing rapidly in importance to AREMA. Our association represents the global railway engineering industry; the recommended practices developed by AREMA are used as the baseline for North American rail infrastructure. InnoTrans is an excellent opportunity for AREMA to increase its exposure in the international market and provide information for European technology providers who are interested in the US market."
The Obama administration has earmarked eight billion dollars for the construction of 13 railway lines making up a high-speed railway network connecting major cities. The US government hopes that this ambitious project will create or maintain tens of thousands of jobs. If awarded contracts for the project, more than 30 manufacturers and suppliers from around the world will agree to set up business operations in the USA.
The largest combined
RAILWAY TRADESHOWS and TECHNICAL CONFERENCES
in North America!
Railway Interchange 2011 will be sponsored by AREMA, REMSA, RSI and RSSI and held at the Minneapolis Convention Center, Minneapolis, MN on September 18-21, 2011. It will be the largest ever such event in North America. Railway Interchange 2011 will be in place of the separate trade shows and conferences traditionally sponsored by these four organizations and will provide railroaders from around the world a unique opportunity to see and hear all that is new and innovative across the entire rail supply industry.
InnoTrans attracts an even larger international audience
With US attendance on the rise InnoTrans is gaining an increasingly international dimension. Currently more than half of all the exhibitors are from abroad. The fact that international associations and transport companies are taking part confirms this event’s high standing. Out of the 20 organisations representing professional interests which have registered to take part 14 are national industrial associations exhibiting their countries’ products and services at InnoTrans.
