President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov addressed the welcoming statement to participants of the International Exhibition “Turkmen Carpets – the Melody of Our Souls”
“I would like to heartily congratulate you on the opening of the International Exhibition “Turkmen Carpets – the Melody of Our Souls” timed to the Turkmen Carpet Day,” the message said. “We say “Welcome to the blessed Turkmen land, the land of cordiality and sincere hospitality” to our foreign brothers, connoisseurs of Turkmen carpets.
“The art of carpet weaving that is an integral part of our invaluable cultural heritage is rooted deeply in the depths of centuries and traced back to the sources of human civilization. The unique craft of making Turkmen carpets has been formed, fostered and perfected during a long period of time and brought to the level of true art that strikes imagination with their beauty. The favorable geographical location of Turkmenistan on the routes of the Great Silk Road predetermined a significant influence of the purely Turkmen art of carpet weaving on the development and refinement of the arts of different peoples of the world, enrichment of human culture.
“Turkmenistan as the centre of the outstanding achievements that profoundly contributed to word culture is rightfully recognized today as the homeland to the art of carpet weaving. We create the conditions conducive to developing and perfecting this craft, fruitful and constructive labour of the makers of wonderful canvases. This is vividly evidenced by the creation of specialized carpet factories equipped in compliance with international standards, the construction and opening of the buildings of the Turkmenhaly State Joint Stock Corporation and the National Turkmen Carpet Museum that are the wonderful specimens of modern architecture.
“Turkmen carpet is the mirror of the soul of our nation reflecting its dreams and hopes, kind-heartedness and width of the national character. A carpet is the chronicle of the glorious historical way of our heroic ancestors that was inscribed in the annals in the language of colours and ornaments. These exquisite masterpieces of the inspired creative work of carpets makers absorbed the greatness of spirit, courage and honour of the Turkmen people, the unfading glory of our sacred Motherland.
Today, in the epoch of new Revival and fundamental reforms our carpet makers –the enthusiasts of their finest craftsmanship skillfully combines the ancient carpet weaving traditions with modern trends weaving their love and mastership in patterns and creating contemporary masterpieces of the art of carpet weaving by their boundless diligence and laborious work. Each square meter of a carpet canvas woven by the nimble, fragile fingers of skilled craftswomen has over 1.5 million knots, and the carpets giants arousing sincere admiration throughout the world is a true miracle of our land and a recognized standard of beauty and fineness.
The visitors to the international exhibition will see the sincere respect given in our country to the makers of wonderful canvases and their diligent and inspired labour, have an opportunity to learn about the outstanding achievements in developing the art of carpet weaving in the epoch of fundamental reforms in the Turkmen society in the interests of our state, nation and humanity and have an opportunity to see the real masterpieces – a result of tireless labour of our great carpet makers, diligence of our dear mothers.” |
