First meeting of intergovernmental Turkmen-French Commission

President of Turkmenistan received Minister of State for Foreign Trade of France Anne-Marie Idrac and Personal Envoy of the President of France for Political and Economic Relations between France and Central Asia Senator Aimery de Montesquiou Fezensac, who had arrived in the Turkmen capital leading the representative delegation to participate in the first meeting of the intergovernmental Turkmen-French Commission for economic cooperation.
During the meeting Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and his guests exchanged views on the current state and prospects for mutually advantageous cooperation and focused with satisfaction on the impressive potential of collaboration in the political, economic cultural and humanitarian spheres. The Turkmen leader provided the example of a number of joint projects implemented in recent years in close cooperation with the leading companies of different countries including France in many key sectors of the national economy.
In conclusion President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov wished fruitful work to the Co-Chairperson of the intergovernmental Turkmen-French Commission that was to increase the effectiveness of bilateral cooperation.
The first meeting of the intergovernmental Turkmen-French Commission for economic cooperation was held in conference hall of the President Hotel in Ashgabat on June 30.
The commission is co-chaired by Vice Premier D. Orazov for Turkmenistan and Anne-Marie Idrac, Minister of State for Foreign Trade for the French Republic.
Opening the meeting the heads of the delegations underscored an interest in diversifying and enhancing Turkmen-French cooperation built on the principles of equality and mutual benefit. Putting emphasis on the dynamic character of bilateral collaboration at the current stage, the Co-Chairpersons expressed belief that the Commission’s activities would give a new powerful impetus to develop further full-scale partnership in all fields in the interests of two friendly nations and states.
In the businesslike, constructive atmosphere the Commission members called for intensifying intergovernmental collaboration in the trade and economic sphere and the energy, construction, textile, transport and communications sectors. Highly evaluating the favorable investment climate created in Turkmenistan for foreign partners, the members of the French delegation said that the business community in their country intended to establish fruitful contacts in a broad spectrum of fields.
A focus of the discussion was humanitarian cooperation. In this regard the sides called for intensifying cultural and educational contacts as a key component of intergovernmental relations. The possibilities for developing partnership in tourism industry were considered.
Upon concluding the meeting the protocol was signed. The second meeting of the intergovernmental Turkmen-French Commission for economic cooperation will take place in France.
